Black algae treatment and stain removal
Black algae roots into concrete and plaster and survives normal chlorine levels; stains can come from metals, leaves or scale. Each one needs a different treatment, so we identify it first.
Black algae
- Aggressive brushing to break the protective layer of each spot
- Targeted treatment and an elevated chlorine level held for several days
- Filter cleaning to remove spores
- Follow-up on the next weekly visits until it stops coming back
Stains
- Organic stains (leaves, debris): treated with chlorine and brushing
- Metal stains (iron, copper): treated with a stain remover and controlled water chemistry
- Scale and heavy staining that won't lift: drain and clean or acid wash
Price
Quoted on site after the technician sees the pool. If you are on weekly service, much of the follow-up happens on your regular visits.
Frequently asked questions
Why does black algae keep coming back?
Its roots grow into the pool surface. Unless every spot is brushed hard and kept at a high sanitizer level for long enough, it regrows from what is left.
